Wesley Wayne Edgington, 73 of Kirkland went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2010 at 7:40 pm, surrounded by his loving family in his home. Wes was born on January 5, 1937 in El Dorado, KS, son of Boyd and Ruby (Bassett) Edgington. Graduate of El Dorado High School, class of 1954. Wes served in the US Navy from 1955-1959 on the USS Hector. United in Marriage to Wanda DeHaven on June 8, 1958 in Augusta, KS. He was employed as a Plant Engineering Supervisor at Sundstrand, he retired at the age of 58. Wes obtained his Associates Degree from Rock Valley College. He is survived by his wife; children, Craig (Brenda) Edgington of Kirkland, Debra Edgington of Sun Prairie, WI, Kris (Stephen) Groom of Rockford; grandsons, Wesley, Michael and Scott Groom; brother, Allen (Judy) Edgington of Theodosia, MO. Predeceased by his parents, and infant brother, Larry Joe Edgington. Wes was a member of Heartland Community Church. In his retirement, he enjoyed horseback riding with his children and grandchildren. He was incredibly supportive of his grandchildren, attending their events and sporting activities. His family has fond memories of the vacations that they took together, especially of traveling to the Sylvan Dale Dude Ranch in Loveland, CO. He enjoyed trail riding with his Rocky Mountain Horses. Wesley was also an accomplished bowler, who took part in many area leagues including the Senior Drop-In's. He bowled in the National Bowling Tournament twice.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 9 at 7 pm at Heartland Community Church, 1280 South Alpine Rd. Rockford, with visitation from 5-7 pm, officiant Pastor Gordy Smith. Private Family Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff of Heartland Hospice, and to Wesley's caregiver, Flory Lucas.
