Thomas (Tom) Leo Cleveland, 85, of Loves Park, IL was welcomed into Heaven on September 13, 2023. Tom was born March 20, 1938, in Chicago, IL to Massillon and Josephine Cleveland. He grew up in a large family with six brothers and two sisters in a household that always welcomed friends to the family table. After high school, Tom met his future wife, Barbara, on a blind date. Together, they raised eight children. Tom and his family moved to Rockford, IL in 1968. Tom had charisma and was not shy. He loved engaging with people and he had a great sense of humor. Tom enjoyed singing, laughing, camping, fishing, and playing cards. He liked to watch the Cubs and Bears and loved to golf. Tom attended St. Bridget Catholic Church in Loves Park and was instrumental in starting a youth group at the church in the 1980s. Tom served the Lord and his community. He loved people and believed in helping others without expecting anything in return. Tom is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Cleveland, children Kathryn (Paul) McGinnis, Robert (Kimberly) Cleveland, Pamela Cleveland, Peggy Washington, David (Jennifer) Cleveland, Timothy (Guillermo Madrigal) Cleveland and his grandchildren, Matthew McGinnis, Nathan (Elise) Washington, Jacob Washington and Josephine Cleveland. Brothers and sisters, Lorrie, Leo, Nancy and Neil and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, four brothers, Jack, Jim, Dubs and Ed, and daughters, Diane and Sharon. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 18 at 10:00 at St Bridget's Church in Loves Park, IL, Fr. Aaron Downing officiating. Private family interment in Immaculate Conception Columbarium. The family expresses their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Alpine Fireside Health Center and OSF Hospice who took such excellent care of Tom.
