Soudary Aphayavong, 57, of Rockford died on September 4, 2018 in her home, surrounded by her family. Born October 28, 1960 in Laos, daughter of Bounsouk and Khanngeun (Thammavong) Aphayavong. Graduate of York High School in Elmhurst. Attended College of DuPage in Wheaton. She was employed as a Quality Control Inspector at Intech Direct in Wheeling, and Now Foods in Glendale Heights. Soudary loved gardening, and had an incredible green thumb. One of the highlights of her 20's was seeing and being kissed by Bob Seger at a live performance in Rosemont. She was a talented cook and baker, serving delicious dishes from both Laos and America. She enjoyed taking long walks with her partner of 30 years, Christopher Powell. Together they explored Candlewick Lake and Sinnissippi Park, where she loved photographing the beautiful plants and flowers. Soudary is survived by her partner, Christopher; and their daughters, Stephanie (fiancé Halvar Petersen) Aphayavong, Sabrina (Troy Allen) Aphayavong; father, Bounsouk Aphayavong; siblings, Soudarack Huck, Soulivong, Soulivahn, Southisack, Southisone, Southisouk Aphayavong; mother-in-law, Faye Delores Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother and sister, Soulivone Aphayavong. Visitation on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 1340 S. Alpine Rd. Rockford – at Colonial Village. Additional visitation on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded.
