Shirley "Shirl" Thomas Rubly
Shirl requested the following obituary: She was born - she died - we buried her. Because she was truly a beautiful person in all her ways and will be deeply missed by many, we've chosen to elaborate a bit. Shirl died on June 23, 2018 at Presence St. Anne's Center. Born on July 26, 1924 in Rockford; daughter of Frank and Anne (Riley) Thomas. Lifetime member of St. Peter's Cathedral. Graduate of Muldoon High School. United in marriage to Al Rubly on August 30, 1951 in Rockford. Shirl retired from Nelson & Storm. She was a long-time volunteer and member of the auxiliary at St. Anne's. "Squirrel" is survived by her nieces, Kathy (Greg Luna) Manson, Collene Cordova; nephew, Tom (Vicki) Manson; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Thomas; husband; sister, Elizabeth "Bud" Manson; and nephew, Mike Manson. Special thanks to the staff at Presence St. Anne's for their loving care over the years and to Northern Illinois Hospice. Funeral Mass on Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St. Rockford. Fr. Leonard Jacobs will officiate. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery.
