Obituary

Shirley Joy Brock, 80, of Rockford, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by her loving family on October 27, 2023. Born August 15, 1943 in Joliet; daughter of Bernard and Hazel (Sippel) Maitya. Graduated from East High School. United in marriage to Roger Lee Brock on January 29, 1966. She lovingly tended to the needs of her family as a homemaker; also worked outside the family home at several retails stores in the community. Shirley was a member of City First Church, where she participated in Bible studies and the women's groups. In her retirement years, she worked as a greeter at the Rockford Clinic with her beloved husband. Shirley was a talented crafter, creating beautiful paint by number art and diamond art creations. She was skilled at embellishing her home, her clothing, and her surroundings with special touches. Shirley had a special way of making family, friends and strangers feel loved and cared for. She had an active relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, praying frequently throughout the day, calling on Him for help, strength, and support. She emulated the teaching of Jesus in many ways, speaking with kindness, praying for and with the staff that she interacted with at Bickford House, and for her family and extended circle of friends. It was evident that Shirley had a genuine love and concern for people around her. She was very humble and never fully realized the positive effect her care and compassion for others had on them. Shirley joined her beloved husband in heaven, leaving a huge void in the lives of all who knew and loved her on this side of heaven. Special thanks go to the staff at Bickford House and OSF Hospice. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Julie) Brock, Karla (Cary) Proper, Aaron (Sue) Brock; grandchildren Garrett (Caitlin) Brock, Payten (Bryce) Nelson, Hayley and Cassidy Proper, Mason and Nolan Brock; great-grandson, Ezekiel Brock; sisters, Laurie (Glenn) McWilliams, Connie (John) Finke; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a circle of friends. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Bonnie (Wayne) Schmidt. Visitation, Wednesday November 1, 2023 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services; 4301 N.
