Ruth Louise Grassl, 96, of Rockford was Promoted to Glory on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 4:45 p.m. Ruth was born on April 11, 1915, daughter of George and Louise Grassl in Chicago. Ruth was deeply rooted in her faith and in her later years longed to be with her Savior. She relocated to Rockford from Chicago in 1991 to be closer to her extended family, and later into Fairhaven Christian Retirement in December of 2008. She was a member of the Salvation Army in Rockford and Chicago, where she had been active as a Sunday school teacher and in the woman's ministry and character building programs. She is survived by her nephew, Dr. Robert (Faith) Slack of Cherry Valley; niece, Judith Grassl of Bartlett; great-nieces and nephew, Lisa (David) O'Connor of Columbus, OH, Amy (Eric) Doerr of Lansing, MI, Todd (Adrienne) Slack of New Orleans, LA; and 10 great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brother George Grassl, sister, Lavergne Karlson; and niece, Janice Ruth Slack.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Rd. Rockford with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Private family interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army or the Fairhaven Chapel Fund.
