Roy L. Knoll, 91, of Lindenwood died on Tuesday, September 12, 2012 in his home. He was born on April 20, 1921, in Lindenwood, son of Leonard and Martha Knoll. Roy faced adversity in his youth with grace and resolve. He was drafted into the United States Army, landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He served under General Patton and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts, as well as a variety of other medals for valor and courage. He was united in marriage to Donna Beylder on June 24, 1943. Roy and Donna were together for 73 years, recently celebrating their 69th Anniversary. After he was discharged from the Army, he worked in DeKalb at an auto body repair shop, eventually moving into a management position. He fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a farmer, operating a dairy farm for over 30 years with the help of his wife and children. He is survived by his wife, Donna; sons, John (Joane), Larry (Sharon) and Jim (Gloria). 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Hanke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ella Lilja, and brother-in-law, Ray Hanke. A Celebration of Roy's Life will be on September 22, 2012 at 2:00 at the family home.
