Ronald M. Johnston, 65 of Rockford died on Sunday, October 31, 2010 at
Swedish American Hospital. Ron was born in Rockford on August 16, 1945, son
of Raymond and Veronica Johnston. He was a graduate of West High School and
was loved by his classmates, several of whom were friends from grade school
until the present day. Ron served his community through many civic and
charitable organizations, including the Rockford Memorial Hospital Fund
Development Committee, the Rockford Symphony Board of Directors, was one of
the founding board members of the Rockford Museum Park, and served on the
Rockford Opera Company Board. Although he never played golf, he also spent
20 years fundraising for the Rockford Pro Am tournament. He was a member of
Second Congregational Church, where he served on numerous boards and
committees and spent 40 years of his life in the Insurance business. He was
the General Manager of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance in Rockford before
he opened the Business Insurance Group and Retirement Investment Consultants
in 1994.
Ron is survived by his sons, Christopher, Michael and Robert Johnston.
Former spouses, Hallie (Joe Locke) Johnston and Bonnie Tamarack, Brothers
Thomas (Karen) Johnston, Jerald Johnston, sister Ruth Ann (Eugene) Canfield,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 6:30 pm at
Second Congregational Church, 318 North Church Street, Rockford, with
visitation from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the church. Rev. Matt Emery will
officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private inurnment in Greenwood
Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ronald Johnston
Memorial Fund care of Blackhawk State Bank, 2475 N. Perryville Rd, Rockford,
