Roland James Rock, 63, of Davis Junction died on September 10, 2017 in his home. Born on August 10, 1954 in Centerville, IA; son of Matthew and Doris (VanBlaricom) Rock. Roland was a Vietnam Veteran who served aboard the USS America, receiving an honorable discharge on November 1, 1973. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading. Roland was a kind and generous person, he lived life to the fullest. He fought his battle with cancer until the very end. Roland was employed as a carpet layer, and also had a certificate in Major Appliance Service, Plant Maintenance and Electrical Trades. Survived by his son, Matthew Rock of Rockford; grandchildren, Michael, Miranda and MaKayla; great-grandchildren, Ayden and Emerie; siblings, Sheila (Dennis) Prosise, John Rock, Daniel (Rosalie) Rock, Sandra Bailey; special friends, Debbie Veitch, Debbie Allen, Rebecca Cook and pet, Skylar. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven Rock. Roland's family is grateful to the VA for the help they gave him. They are also grateful to the Ogle County Police Department, Ogle County Rescue Squad, and Ogle County Coroner for their compassion and help during their time of need.
