Robert L. Strommen, 84 of Rockford died on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 5:30 a.m. at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1926 is Mondovi, WI. Son of Robert and Esther Strommen. Served in the US Navy from 1943-1946. United in Marriage to Berdella Solfest on August 23, 1947 in Racine. He was employed as a metal plater at Sheppard Plating in Racine, WI, and Up Modern Metal. In 1973 he opened the RL Strommen Company Custom Metal Finishing in Rockford. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Berdella; children, Kathi (Wayne) Dalton of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Mary (Michael) Ainsworth of Rockford; grandchildren, Lauren (Matthew) Henne, Christopher (Kelli) Hughes, both of Hilton Head, South Carolina; great grandchild, Cody Hughes; siblings, Shirley Recupero of Racine, WI Evelyn Joslin, of Butternut, WI Dorothy (Frank) Fuma, of Racine, WI. Preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Strommen Jr.; siblings, Ruth Fox, Alger Strommen, Betty St. Thomas; grandchildren, Casey and Callie Ainsworth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A funeral service will be held on September 7, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at West Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 9000 Washington Ave. Racine, WI. With visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Miller will officiate. Interment at West Lawn Memorial Park. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
