Richard "Dick" Redmond, 93, of Rockford went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born May 30, 1932 in Beloit, WI; son of John and Lucy (Sorensen) Redmond. Graduate of Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1950, where he was on the football team where he grew to love the game. After barely graduating, Dick served his county honorably in the United States Navy on the USS Badoeng Straight during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he enrolled and passed a four year carpenter apprentice program during which time he met his future wife at a barn dance in Beloit, WI. When he spotted Dorothy "Dot" Arbogast across the room, he knew immediately that he was going to marry her and told her that same evening. Dick and Dot were united in marriage on July 19, 1958; they were devoted to each other and celebrated 67 years of marriage in 2025. Upon completion of his carpenter apprentice program, Dick was hired as a carpenter at the Wagon Wheel Resort in Rockton where he worked for 17 years. He furthered his career at Doane Welding for 15 years. He later went on to work for the Steamfitters Union 601 for 10 years and retired in 2005. Dick grew up on the shores of the Rock River in Beloit, he loved any activity based on the water. He spent his winters ice skating on the Rock River and summers boat racing, fishing and water skiing. Dick loved watching his Green Bay Packers. His claim to fame was saying he was at the NFL famous Ice Bowl where his beloved Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys. He was a former member of First Baptist Church and long time member of Berean Baptist Church. He and Dot raised three children; Randall Redmond, Steven Redmond and Rhonda (Philip) Whitehead. In addition to his wife, Dot and children; he is survived by grandchildren, Travis (Allie) Redmond, Tanner Redmond, Isaiah (Keeley) Whitehead, Olivia Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Ryder Redmond, Tripp Redmond, Emelia Redmond, baby Whitehead (due June of 2026) and brother-in-law, Alan Wilson. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings. The Redmond family would like to send a special thanks to Serenity Hospice and their staff (Terry the primary nurse) and Dr. Lori Schultz for their extra care. Thank you also to family and friends for your love, thoughts, prayers. Visitation January 24, 2026 at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am at Memorial Baptist Church, 7007 Flora Rd. Rockford. Pastor Scott Rehfeldt will officiate. The family would encourage you to wear your favorite Packers attire or your favorite football team apparel in honor of Dick. Interment in Willwood Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
