Richard W. Nordberg, 92, of Rockford went home to the Lord on June 22, 2015 in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born April 18, 1923 in Rockford, son of Eric and Ruth (Olson) Nordberg. Graduate of Central High School in 1923. Richard served in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Straub Destroyer. He retired as a Buyer from National Lock after 42 years of employment. He was proud of his service in the military. Richard enjoyed watching the Cubs and Bears. Survived by his children, Trudy (Larry) Higgs of Rockford, Linda Johnston of Rockford, Terry (Kathy) Nordberg of Caledonia; grandchildren, Shawn Johnston, Shannon (Alen McVeigh) Higgs; and great-granddaughter Gianna Johnston. Preceded in death by his wife, Harriett on March 22, 2013, and sister, Virginia Frazee. A Celebration of Richard's life will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 North Alpine Rd. Rockford. Rev. Darren Loeppke of Creekwood Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to do a random act of kindness. Cremation rites have been accorded.
