Raymond Hugo Lundgren 1921-2018
Raymond H Lundgren, 97, loving and devoted husband and father passed away May 19, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born April 29, 1921 in Chicago, the only child to Swedish immigrants, Gustaf Hugo Lundgren and Eleanor (Nelson) Lundgren. He proudly served in WWII in the infantry in France and Germany. After the war, he married Jean Benson on October 16, 1948 in Chicago where they started their family and lived for 12 years, until they moved to St. Charles, Illinois in 1960. In 2012 they moved to Rockford. Ray was a tool and die man by trade and loved to tinker in his garage with various projects, but he also enjoyed fishing. Over the years he worked for a number of companies, Kindwall Brothers, Borg Erickson, Portable Electric Tools and DuKane. He is survived by his daughters Nancy Leonard (Michael) of Rockford, Illinois, and Karen Lundgren-Secard (Lee) of Los Angeles, California. He has one granddaughter, Elizabeth Leonard O'Connor (Jack) of Rockford, Illinois, and one great grandson, Grant. In his life, Ray never had a thought where he did not consider the welfare and loving support of his wife and children. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marilynn Sharp, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife, Jean, his parents, sister-in-law Dorothy Bate, brothers-in-law Herb Bate and Mel Sharp. Visitation on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 1340 S. Alpine Rd. Rockford - at Colonial Village. Graveside funeral service on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Gardens South Cemetery, 11333 Central Ave. Oak Lawn, IL 60453. Rev. Dr. Chuck Olson of St. Mark Lutheran Church will officiate. The family would to thank the OSF Hospice staff for their loving care.
