Peggy Jeannette Craig, 77, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on September 18, 1947, in Rockford, Peggy was the cherished daughter of Charles "Les" and Beryl (Gustafson) Spielman.
A proud graduate of West High School, Class of 1965, Peggy dedicated her life to caring for others. She spent more than three decades at Rockford Memorial Hospital as a Unit Coordinator, where her calm presence, kind heart, and steady hands made a lasting difference in the lives of countless patients and colleagues. Her work was more than a job-it was a calling-and she treated each person she encountered with compassion and dignity.
On July 6, 1967, Peggy married the love of her life, Gary Howard Craig. Together they built a life filled with laughter, love, and family-values that remained at the center of everything Peggy did. Her happiest moments were those spent with her children and grandchildren, cheering them on at events, hosting family gatherings, or simply being there with a listening ear and a warm hug. She was the heart of the family-steady, strong, and always present.
Peggy also found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved a good thrift store treasure hunt, spent countless Saturdays at garage sales, and took pride in keeping her yard beautiful. A loyal Chicago Bears fan, she cheered with passion and pride-no matter the score. In earlier years, she enjoyed time on bowling leagues at Reitch's Bowling Center and was active in the Veteran's Memorial Hall Auxiliary.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Gary; her children, Michelle (Kurt) Wilson, Danelle Mangruem, Nicole Ponds, Jennifer Caple-Craig, John (Cortney) Craig, and Ryan (Ashley) Craig; her 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Clarence Weber; and the family dog, JoJo.
She is reunited in peace with her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Laurel (Randy) Garner and Martha Weber; beloved dog, Bear; and good friends, Sue and Bob King.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July August 2, 2025 from 2 pm to 4 pm. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 4301 N. Main St., Rockford. A Celebration of Life will follow at 4 p.m.
Peggy's life was a testament to kindness, strength, and quiet dedication. She touched many hearts and will be lovingly remembered always.
