Maxine K. Ahlgren, 92, of Rockford died on September 16, 2013 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born on August 22, 1921 in Leaf River, daughter of Charles and Vida (Stein) Hobart. United in marriage to Harold Ahlgren. Maxine was employed by the Winnebago County States Attorney's Office for 20 years. She had an outstanding sense of humor and was a ton of fun to be around. She will be greatly missed by her family and circle of friends. Maxine enjoyed volunteering at SwedishAmerican Hospital and at the Center for Sight and Hearing. On the last Thursday of each month, she played cards with her card club and in the summer months, you could find her golfing at the Red Barn with the Wazoom golf league. She attended Heartland Community Church every Saturday with her friend, Donna McIntosh. Member of the American Legion Post 1207 Women's Auxiliary and a member of the Moose Lodge. Survived by her grandsons, Brian (Annette) Ahlgren of Rockford, Brad (Lisa) Ahlgren of Belvidere; great-grandchildren, Bethany, Jason, Jessica, Kaylee, Jonathan "Kade"; great-great grandson, Carmichael "CJ"; nieces, Linda (Hugh) DeGroff and Charlene (Jim) Holmberg all of Rockford; nephew, Larry (Sheri) Freedlund of Bourbonnais; great-great nephew Jacob, and numerous great-nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 1987 and son, Douglas H. Ahlgren in 2002. A celebration of Maxine's life will be on Monday, September 23, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Heartland Community Church, 1280 South Alpine Rd. Rockford, with visitation from 12 p.m. until the time of service.
