Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Servant of Christ
Martin S. Johnson, 84, of Machesney Park was called "home" by his Heavenly Father on September 22, 2011 at 3:15 a.m. after a long battle with diabetes and heart-related problems. Martin was born on April 28, 1927 in Rockford, son of Paul and Olga Johnson. Graduate of West High, where he was honored as an ROTC major. Served in the United States Navy in WWII and the Korean war. United in Marriage to Jane Lorenzen of 63 years on March 27, 1948 in Rockford. Retired 25 years from Sundstrand and White-Sundstrand, after a successful career as a design engineer. Member of Grace Reformed Baptist Church, Marty loved sharing his love for the Lord Jesus Christ with everyone he came in contact with. In retirement, Martin loved bowling with his team, "The Old Guys," and was a long time volunteer for the Nightsounds radio ministry. Marty was a master gardener and photographer, and was loved by all who knew him. Survived by his wife, Jane; children, Karen (Harold) Scott of Cleveland, OH, Brad (Kendra) Johnson of Rockford, Jennifer (Terry Egan) of Rockford; grandchildren, Erin (Preston) Fallat of Ft. Wayne, IN, Ryan (Sally) Johnson of Conway, AR, Justin (Evonne) Johnson of Rockford, Sara Hallstein of Rockford, Shannon Hallstein of Rockford; grandson-in-law, Jason Sopkovich; great grandchildren, Micaiah Sopkovich, Hudson Wallace, Madeline Fallat, Nolan Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Olivia Fallat, and Collin Johnson; siblings, Gordon (Sandy) Johnson of Dadeville, AL, Maxine Cullen of Independence, OR. Predeceased by his parents; brother, Paul Johnson; and granddaughter, Amanda Sopkovich. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Grace Reformed Baptist Church, 6310 Guilford Road Rockford, Pastor Dale Smith will officiate.
