MAE RUTH (Pickell) WELCH 1917 - 2016
Mae Ruth Welch, 99½ of Shirland died peacefully on October 30, 2016, at Highview In The Woodlands, Rockton, IL. Mae was born on April 18, 1917 in Bentonville, Arkansas, Daughter of Edgar Franklin and Mary Elizabeth (Blocker) Pickell. United in Marriage to Robert Wiley Welch on August 28, 1945 in Durand, IL. As a couple for 64 busy years they built their home and business of 40 years in Shirland. Active in the community, Mae was a member of the Shirland UMW, served several years as a Trustee on the Town Board, and worked 25 years as a clerk in the Post Office. Mae is survived by her children; Michael (Welch) of Shirland, Katherine (James) Gribble of Raymore, MO, Barbara (Terry) Bergeson of Shirland. Grandchildren; Kari (Michael) Listenbee, Beloit, WI, Krista (Rob) Payne, Brighton, CO, Julie Fahrni, Raymore, MO, Chad (Michelle) Bergeson, Cortland, IL, and Scott (Lindsey) Bergeson, Sun Prairie, WI. Great-Grandchildren; Jordan and Amara Listenbee, Casey and Cameron Payne, Anna Fahrni, Emma and Ethan Bergeson and Amelia and Samuel Bergeson; her brothers Frank Pickell, Conway, AR and Charles Pickell, Siloam Springs, AR and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased in death by her husband Robert; and siblings, George, Katherine, Karl and Henry. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Shirland United Methodist Church, 8030 North St. Shirland, with visitation from 10:30 until the time of service. Rev. Mark Meyers will officiate Interment in Shirland Cemetery.
