Obituary

Dr. Lyn Makeever, 82, of Rockford died on May 17, 2018. Born on June 29, 1935 in Waterloo, IA; son of Howard and Sidonia (Christians) Makeever. He served in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan for two years. Graduate of University of Iowa Medical School, completing his residency at Rockford Memorial Hospital. He then continued the next 35 years in the laboratory specializing in microbiology. He was a life fellow member of the College of American Pathologists, member of American Society of Clinical Pathology and American Society for Microbiology & Emeritus. He loved working in the lab at Rockford Memorial Hospital and had a deep regard for his fellow pathologists and coworkers there. United in marriage to Janet George on December 15, 1957. Lyn was a lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, enjoyed genealogy research and loved to travel. He was a member of the "Skiing Pathology Club" and and the Ostenda & Cotillion Ballroom Dance Clubs. As a talented dancer, he and his wife along with six other couples formed a travel group called the "Travelling Terpsichoreans," enjoying several dancing cruises and extended vacations. Survived by wife, Janet; children, Ranell S. Makeever, Kelly Makeever Rapacki, Matthew H. (Amy Caruana) Makeever; grandson, Aaron F. Rapacki; all of Rockford; sisters-in-law, Patricia May Makeever of Arlington Heights, Frances Deniston of Davenport, IA, Meta Brinker of Temple, TX; special friends, Connie Vitali, Mark Bradel and family, Vern and Carolyn Armbrustmacher. Lifetime friends, Buzz & Jan Pinnow and John & Pat Dettloff. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dave Makeever. The family is grateful for the excellent care he received at Mercy Health and River Bluff Nursing Home. Open House & Celebration of Life will be Sunday, May 27, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 6 Springbrook Rd. Rockford. Private interment in Scandinavian Cemetery.
