Linda Carol Johnston, 65, of Rockford died on February 4, 2016 in SwedishAmerican Hospital. Born on May 23, 1950 in Rockford, daughter of Richard and Harriet Nordberg. Graduate of Guilford High School, class of 1968 and Rock Valley College. Formerly employed at Rock Vale Children's Home and Milestone, where she also served as a volunteer. Linda retired from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she worked as a nurse in the Winnebago County Jail. She helped found the sliding scale based payment program at Crusader Clinic. Linda was a loving and caring person, and was truly called to the nursing profession. She had ability to make people feel at ease. Survived by son, Shawn Johnston of Rockford; granddaughter, Gianna Johnston of Rockford; siblings, Terry (Kathy) Nordberg of Caledonia, Trudy (Larry) Higgs of New Milford; niece Shannon (Alen McVeigh) Higgs of Rockford; and family friend Angelo Pipitone.
