Obituary

Lavergne G. Karlson, 93 of Rockford was Promoted to Glory on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at 1:45 p.m. at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Lavergne was born on March 6, 1917 in Chicago, daughter of George and Louise (Meske) Grassl. United in Marriage to Lawrence Slack on April 18, 1936, he preceded her in death. Married Karl Karlson on October 4, 1975. Lavergne was employed as a legal secretary, and later at Sears for many years. Member of the Salvation Army, where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the string band. She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert (Faith) Slack of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Lisa (David) O'Connor of Westerville, OH, Amy (Eric) Doerr of Lansing, MI, Todd (Adrienne) Slack of New Orleans, LA; 10 great- grandchildren; sister, Ruth Grassl of Rockford; niece, Judy Grassl of Bartlett. Preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter, Janice Ruth Slack, and brother, George Grassl.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army Temple, 500 South Rockford Ave. Rockford, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Major Everett Jordan will officiate. Private family interment in Arlington Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in Lavergne's name to the Fairhaven Chapel Fund or the Salvation Army. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, Rockford is assisting the family.
