Kevin Joseph Barbour, 70, of Rockford, passed away on June 8, 2025. Born on June 3, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas, Kevin was the beloved son of Robert Barbour and Joan (Stubblefield) Barbour.
Kevin was an Educator who dedicated his life to serving students in Chicago Public Schools. He chose to spend his career working in inner-city schools, driven by a deep sense of purpose and compassion. Kevin had a special gift for reaching children with learning disabilities, offering not just instruction but patience, presence, and unwavering belief in their potential. He was the kind of teacher who arrived early, stayed late, and never stopped advocating for those who needed him most.
Kevin married the love of his life, Lynn Stinnette, in a beautiful ceremony. Their love was a steady and joyful presence, full of laughter, loyalty, and mutual devotion. Kevin's warmth, wit, and gentle humor were a constant comfort to Lynn, even during life's hardest moments. He cherished his role as husband, stepfather, brother, and son, and found deep joy in the company of his extended family.
A man of deep faith, Kevin was a devoted Catholic who rarely missed Sunday Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral. His faith was lived out daily in his kindness, humility, and quiet acts of service.
Kevin had a special love for animals, especially his cherished Miniature Schnauzers, Maddie and Izzy, and his late Labrador Retrievers, Tucker, Trooper and Tosha. His home was always filled with warmth-whether from family gatherings, shared meals, or simply a dog curled at his feet.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Lynn Stinnette-Barbour; his stepson, Hugh Stinnette; his mother, Joan Barbour; his sisters, Kathy (Eli) Lazich and Kim (Brent) Abraham; half-sister, Misha Barbour; nieces and nephews, Ben, Carly, Zachary, Hannah, Jonah, Sophia, Tessa; extended family; and his beloved dogs, Maddie and Izzy.
