Ketut Setiawan, 71, of Rockford, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Rockford, Illinois.
Ketut was born on December 31, 1954, in Bali, Indonesia, to Ni Luh Kompiang Warsiki and I Gede Wiratha. He grew up in Bali alongside his siblings: Ni Luh Putu Sulastri (deceased), Oka Sastrawan, Ayu Sinarsih, Agus Guna Diatmika, Putu Adi Kertawisma, and Ni Nyoman Rai Saptaningsih.
In 1976, Ketut made the momentous decision to move to the United States. He married the love of his life, Peggy Susan Setiawan (nee Guedet), on October 16, 1976. He became a naturalized United States citizen in 1988, a milestone he carried with pride. In 2008, he fulfilled a meaningful dream by building a home in his beloved home village of Gaji, maintaining a lasting connection to his homeland.
Ketut worked as Environmental Supervisor at Alpine Fireside Health Center, where his strong work ethic and quiet reliability were evident every day. He believed deeply in the value of hard work and led by example, selflessly giving his time and resources to help others regardless of circumstance.
A man of few words, Ketut carried himself with a calm and steady demeanor. Yet those who knew him well were often surprised and delighted by his off-the-wall humor, which would surface at the most unexpected moments. His kindness spoke louder than words. He was always ready to lend a hand - whether through home repairs, yardwork, snow removal, or any task that needed doing. He found joy in working on home projects and gardening, and he especially loved trying new foods and cooking traditional Balinese dishes for his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Peggy Setiawan; his daughter, Sarah Setiawan and her husband Devon Rueckner; and his son, David Setiawan and his wife Hayley Dickinson. He also leaves behind his siblings and extended family both in the United States and Indonesia.
Ketut will be most remembered for his kind spirit, quiet strength, and the steady, generous presence he provided to those around him. His life was a testament to humility, perseverance, and love expressed through action rather than words.
An informal celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, at Sam's Ristorante & Pizzeria on Riverside Boulevard.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
