Obituary

Kenneth D. Murray, 79, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on February 10, 1946, in Rector, Arkansas, Ken was the son of Alvin and Imogene (Guthrie) Murray.

As a young man, Ken moved from Arkansas to Rockford with his cousin, and it was there that a young lady named Kay Forrester caught his eye. Their friendship blossomed into a deep and lasting love, and they were married on January 30, 1965, in Rockford. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.

Ken was a gifted craftsman and the proud owner and builder of Ken Murray Construction, where he poured his heart into creating more than 200 custom homes throughout the Rockford community. Later, he brought his skills and dedication to Airoom Architectural Company in Chicago, where he worked as a project manager. Ken was a man who could design, build, and fix just about anything, and he approached each day with a tireless work ethic. He loved his work and took pride in the legacy he was leaving behind.

But more than his career, Ken's true joy was his family. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and an even better grandfather and great-grandfather. His children and grandchildren fondly remember the lessons he taught them about hard work, perseverance, and love. He leaves behind a legacy not just of beautiful homes, but of cherished memories and invaluable life lessons.

Ken also had a deep love for animals, especially his devoted dogs, Max the Mini Schnauzer and Thor the German Shepherd, who preceded him in death, and his cherished cats, Miss Kitty and Little Kitty. His pets brought him comfort and companionship, and they were truly part of the family.

Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kay; children, Darin (Delores) Murray and Michelle (Scott) Schrieber; grandchildren, Brandon Murray, Nathan Murray, Shianna (Jonathan) Vander Waal, and Colin Schrieber; great-grandchildren, Grayson Murray, Melody Nalley, and Logan Vander Waal; siblings, Bonnie Stewart, Shirley Murray, and Lynn Murray; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne, Bill and Rick Murray and beloved dogs.

A visitation will be held on June 4, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 4301 N. Main St., Rockford. Cremation rites will be accorded, and Ken will be laid to rest in Arkansas at a later date.

Ken's legacy of love, hard work, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
