Obituary

Karin Louise Andersen, 90, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on May 25, 2025, surrounded by the family she cherished so deeply. Born on April 17, 1935. She was the daughter of Carl and Nettie Johnson.

A proud graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1953, Karin's life took a joyful turn when she met her beloved husband, Richard Andersen, on a blind date. They were united in marriage on February 8, 1958, in Rockford, beginning a beautiful life together filled with love, faith, and family.

Karin's career was marked by her kindness and dedication to serving others. From her early days at Illinois Bell as a customer service representative, to managing the Card Department at Camera Craft, and later working as a Customer Service Representative at Rockford Clinic, she was known for her warmth, professionalism, and unwavering work ethic.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. A devoted member of Riverside Community Church, Karin lived out her beliefs through her acts of kindness, generosity, and love for her family and friends. She strived to be a source of strength and comfort to those around her, and her faith guided her through every chapter of her life.

Above all, Karin was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was deeply committed to her family, serving as a supportive PTA leader and room mother during her children's school years. Her home was filled with love and laughter, as well as the comforting smells of her home-cooked meals. A talented seamstress and gardener, she poured her heart into creating a warm and welcoming home.

Karin and Richard shared a love for travel, making cherished memories together in Germany, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and on many adventures across the United States. But no matter where she traveled, home was always where her family was.

She leaves behind her loving children, Kathyrn (Daniel) Smith, David Andersen, and Sharon (Ricky) Fry-Clingon; her grandchildren, Nicole Andersen, Joshua (Laura Ashenbrener) Smith, Andrew (Amanda) Smith, Gage Fry, and Luke Fry; her great-grandchildren, Tanner, Jordan, Aurora, Atlas, Andelyn, Peregrine, Cooper, Mara, and Leon; her siblings, Nancy (Garner) Lovell and Ronald Johnson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dear friend Karen Duerst.

Karin was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard, her parents, and her siblings Jordis Downey, Carl Johnson, Gerald Johnson, and John Johnson.
A memorial visitation will be held on June 4, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Community Church, 6816 N. 2nd Street, Machesney Park. A celebration of Karin's life will follow at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bobby Sheets officiating. Karin will be laid to rest in the church's Memorial Garden.

Karin's love for her family, her faith, and her community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy is one of kindness, grace, and unwavering devotion.
