John C. "Big John" Harris, 66, of Shirland died on July 7, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 17, 1949 in Rockford, son of Charles and Gladys (Anderson) Harris. Graduate of South Beloit High School. United in Marriage to Mary Wines on April 17, 1971. John retired from the Winnebago County Highway Department after 40 years and 10 months of employment. He was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years for the Shirland Fire Department. John loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his grandkids. Survived by his wife, Mary of Shirland; children, John (Sarah) Harris of Beloit Township, WI, Jennifer (Christopher) Knowles, of Loves Park, Marie (Bill) Huenefeld, Orangeville; grandchildren, Hannah (Jory), Brandi, Colin, Joseph, Samantha, Briar; great-granddaughter, Kailynn; siblings, Kay (Dave) Johnson of AZ, sister-in-laws, Connie (Tom) Miller, Robin (Bill) Gesell; Helen (Larry) Radant; brother-in-laws, Billy (Debbie) Wines, Kevin (Dawn) Wines, Denny Johnson, Lyle (Linda) Spangler; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Steve Haas and Jim Carter. Celebration of life on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shirland Fire Department. 13086 Mitchell St. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services assisted the family.
