Jo Ann (Long) Collins, 78, of Rockford died at home surrounded by her family after a long illness on January 7, 2014. She was born on February 22, 1935 in Platteville, WI, daughter of Rex and Mildred (Kenny) Long. Graduate of Platteville High School. Married Bruce Collins on September 5, 1953 at St. Mary's Church in Platteville. Jo Ann was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and was devoted to her family throughout her entire life. Jo Ann created an atmosphere of fun and laughter in her home. She loved to tell jokes and was the life of the party. Her death leaves a great void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. She was formerly a member of St. Peter's Cathedral, where she participated in the choir and bridge club. She also enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Survived by her husband, Bruce; children: Jeff (Barb Hoffman) Collins of Spokane, WA; Jackie (William) Benzel of Roscoe; Steve (Anna) Collins of Azusa, CA; Tim (Veronica) Collins of Normal, IL; Katie (Mike) Lang of Rockford; Charlie Collins of Rockford; 19 grandchildren: Courtney, Andrew, Jon, Beth, Laura, Caroline, Rob, Kim, Stephanie, Sarah, Becky, Rachel, Ben, Nick, Hannah, Natalie, Mandie, Shaun, and Tim; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Blankenberg of Plattville, WI; sister-in-laws, June Long of Platteville; Agnes Long of Menasha, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Tom, John and Larry Long. Memorial Service Saturday, January 11, 2014 at noon at First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 North Mulford, Rockford.
