Jean Ruth (Myrsten) Abruzzo, 94, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026 at her home in Rockford. Born in Escanaba, Michigan on July 13, 1931 to Elsie (Johnson) Myrsten and Gust Myrsten. Graduated from Escanaba High School in 1949. Graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Rockford in 1952. Married Benny Sam Abruzzo on November 1, 1952 in Rockford; he preceded her in death on January 4, 2001. Worked for Dr. Joseph Perez for 10 years. Proud mother of three adopted children: Susan, Jane (Jonathan) Whitford of Urbandale, Iowa, and Sam. Blessed by her five grandchildren: Ashley Abruzzo, Noah, Luke and Abigail Whitford, and Ciara Abruzzo. Active member and proud volunteer organizer of the Angel Tree at First Evangelical Free Church. Devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs. Survivors include her three children, five grandchildren, sister-in-law Lillian (Don) Myrland of Janesville, Wisconsin, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and many dear friends and family members. The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice for their loving care and support during this difficult time. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services; 4301 North Main Street, Rockford, starting with a visitation at 9:30 am and memorial service at 10 am. Family and friends are invited to stay for the reception at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rockford Rescue Mission and Dementia Society of America.
