James "Jim" McGinnis, 76, passed away on May 1, 2025 after a long illness in Rockford, IL. He grew up in Superior, WI, in a large and loving Irish family. He graduated from the UW-Superior. It was there that he met his soulmate, Karen Maki.
Jim was a kind, generous, intelligent man who held a variety of positions in the insurance profession. Outside of work, he was active in Christ Lutheran Church, where he was a member of Men of Christ.
He loved all music, was an ardent reader and gladly shared his books with anyone. Jim was also a devoted sports fan and took up golf in his retirement. He was proud of his Irish heritage and had an infectious sense of humor. He often shared memories of the McGinnis clan with his nieces, nephews and friends.
Jim is survived by Karen, his wife of 55 years; sister, Kate (Jon) Lenn; brothers, Joe (Diane), Mike (Terry), Pat (Nikki), John (Jenny); special friends, Karen Glavin and Shari Warmoth; several generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Dr. Jim and Anne McGinnis and sisters Eileen Tomzak and Gitzy Wickland.
His blood type was B-Positive, and that was the way he lived his life; a legacy that has been passed on to friends, family and anyone who needed a caring friend.
