James Michael Cooper, 67, of Rockford went to be with his Savior on March 13, 2016 in OSF St. Anthony Hospital. Born on April 13, 1948 in Marshalltown, IA son of, John and Pauline (Davis) Cooper. Served in the United States Air Force. Jim had a great sense of humor and it was impossible to leave his presence without hearing a great joke, or funny story. Jim retired from Rockwell International, and also owned his own lawn care business and bar and grill for many years. He was the manager of the Polish Falcons Club and member of Broadway Covenant Church. He collected John Deere memorabilia. Jim raised fantail pigeons for 60 years, and won numerous awards for his flock. United in marriage to the love of his life, Toni Harris on November 13, 2001 in Iowa. The last 11 years of his life were truly his best. Survived by wife, Toni; son, Jeffrey (Kim) Cooper of South Beloit; step-children, Justin (Angela) Harris, Jennifer (Boyd) Williams and Jordan (Michaela) Harris, all of Rockford; grandchildren, Benjamin and Cole Cooper; step-grandchildren, Isabella and Oliva Harris and Desmon Moore; sister, Cynthia (Charles) Worsley of Sandwich; 5 nieces and nephews; and several close friends. Preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Broadway Covenant Church, 3525 Broadway, Rockford. Rev. Mike Mirkian will officiate. Memorial Visitation at 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Private family interment in Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to be determined later. The family is grateful to the nurses, oncology staff, and ambulatory nurses at OSF St. Anthony Hospital and OSF Home Care, as well as their Broadway Covenant Church family.
