Hilene Spiezer, 68, of Rockford died peacefully at home September 30, 2017, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  Born on January 26, 1949 in Chicago; daughter of Jack and Maxine (Berliant) Vihon.  Hilene was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was adored by her children and grandchildren.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her twelve grandchildren, and loved planning vacations to bring the whole family together.  She loved reading good books, listening to protest music from the sixties and seventies, and keeping in touch with her many friends from throughout the decades and all over the country through social media.  She was formerly employed as an elementary school teacher in the Rockford Public School system.  Survived by her children, Rachel Spiezer of South Korea, Marnie Coutino of Milwaukee, WI, Elizabeth (Elmore) Lawson of Madison, WI, Ethan (Becky) Spiezer of South Beloit, Adam (Katie) Spiezer of Addison; grandchildren, Isabella, Dante, Malaya, Penelope, Delilah, Jaret, Cecilia, Eva, Rocco, Rueben, Kaiden and Kohen; brother, Robert (Mary) Vihon of Wilmette, sisters, Marsha Vihon of Chicago, Laurie (Rick) Werner of Orland Park; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and former spouse, Joseph Spiezer of Rockford.  Graveside service at Rockford Hebrew Cemetery on October 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Chesky Rothman officiating.  Please join our family for sitting Shiva at Hilene's home at 2627 Green Apple Lane in Rockford immediately following the funeral.
