Hildeborg Grenberg, 101 of Rockford died on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 4:05 p.m. in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 15, 1910 in Malmo Sweden, daughter of Oscar and Hilma Walberg. She immigrated to the United States in 1912. Graduate of Rockford High School. Happily married Bert Grenberg for 65 years. Hillie was a former member of the Forest Hills Country Club and member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and loved fishing and watching the birds at her feeder. Hillie was an excellent cook, sharing her Swedish heritage with her extended family. She lived a happy, joyful life and was very active until her later years. She was affectionately known as "Hot Rod Hillie," relinquishing her driver's license at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughter, Beatrice Ray of Sugar Land, Texas; grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Ferguson of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Diana (Allen) Peterson of Sugar Land, Texas; great-grandchildren, Keith, Lauren, Taylor, Olivia; nieces, Dianna (Gene) Halgrimson of Cherry Valley and Patricia Murawski of Rockford. Preceded in death by her parents and husband. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Morningstar Village, 1160 North Mulford Road, Rockford. Chaplain Joe Militello will officiate. Private interment at a later date. Hillie's family respectfully requests memorial contributions in her name in lieu of flowers. A bird feeder will be placed at Morningstar Village in her honor, so that the other residents can share in her love of nature.
