Hans-Dieter Eckhardt, 64, of Rockford, Ill and Eisern, Germany, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 after a brief bout with cancer. Born March 12, 1947, in Siegen, Germany, the son of the late Else and Walter Eckhardt. Dieter was employed by Ingersoll GmbH/Waldrich-Siegen for over 39 years where he spent a great deal of time traveling the globe. His passions included working with his hands, watching soccer and Formula One , vacations in Croatia, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dieter leaves to cherish many loving memories his wife, Karin; son, Christian (Stacy) Eckhardt; daughter, Dunja (Kelley) Simms; grandchildren, Alex Eckhardt, Marek Simms and Ana Simms; nephew, Uwe (Christina) Ebert; sister, Doris Ebert; brother, Gerhard (Renate) Eckhardt; brother, Bernd (Margitta) Eckhardt; and several other nieces and nephews in Germany. Predeceased by his parents; brother-in-law Peter Ebert.
