Obituary

Gyla Jane DuFoe, born December 1, 1921, in Rapelje, Montana to Guy J. and Ila V. (Boyd) Black. Her family relocated to Loves Park in 1923, and she lived in the family home until her passing. She was baptized in 1926, at Bethany Presbyterian Church and remained a lifetime member of the church. Graduating from Harlem High School, Class of 1939, she was active in the alumni until recent years. She graduated from Rockford Business College and served as executive secretary at Loves Park School and Anderson Brothers Manufacturing until her marriage to Fred A. DuFoe in 1953. She later returned to work at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Loves Park where she worked many years, bringing joy to her customers and co-workers. Gyla was also a charter member of the North Suburban Woman's Club. Her hobbies included Bingo, watching NASCAR, football and basketball. She also rescued many cats over the years, demonstrating her deep love of all animals. She was a wonderful mother and a great friend and her kindness and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed. Survived by sons, Rusty (Gary Gordon) DuFoe and Jay (Debbie) DuFoe; grandchildren, Arin Hammer-Hampton, Michael Hammer, Nathan and Alex DuFoe and 6 great-grandchildren; cousin, Gene (Muriel) Boyd. Predeceased by her husband, Fred and daughter, Mildred Hammer.
Cremation rites were accorded and a private family service is planned at a later date. Memorials in her name may be made to Roscoe Animal Retreat, P.O. Box 432, Roscoe, IL 61073. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services assisted the family. Share a memory or condolence at www.graceFH.com .
