Loving Mom, Sister, Aunt and Friend
Gena "Gigi" Ann Simmons, 43 of Loves Park died on December 22, 2011 at 9:25 p.m., surrounded by her loving family. Gena was born on October 9, 1968 in Shawnee Mission, KS, daughter of Eugene and Delores Simmons. Formerly employed as a Bartender at Neighbors, Legends and Cubbies West. Gena was a loving, caring and devoted mother to her son, Steven. She had a great sense of humor and was very outgoing and big hearted. She will be remembered for her kindness and compassion, and was known to reach out to people in need. She was an avid Bears, Bull and Cubs fan. She is survived by her son, Steven Martin, of Loves Park; sisters, Tammi Simmons of Bull Head City, AZ, Sandi (Brian Erickson) Hale of Loves Park; special friend, Bill Bellows of Loves Park; nieces and nephews, Daniel Foltz, David (Chantel) Staney, Chelsea Staney, Alexandria Staney, Chrissy Roach- Hale, Tiffany (Jason) Lozdoski, Joseph (Ashely) Meija; numerous great nieces and nephews; uncles, Oscar "Buddy" Mills, of Rockford, Bob (Betty) Mills of Marion, OH, Jim Mills of St. Loius, MO; numerous cousins, and her beloved dog, Roxi. Preceded in death by her parents, and fiancee Steven Martin. Gena's family is thankful for the loving care provided by Tammy Christiansen and the staff of Heartland Hospice. A Memorial Celebration will be December 30, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at Hawk's View Restaurant 11189 Forest Hills Rd Machesney Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gena's son, Steven.
