Gary L. Mernack, 60 of Rockford died in his residence on May 1, 2010 at 9:55 am, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on January 12, 1950 in Rockford, son of Lester and Mary Lou Mernack. United in Marriage to Doris Funk on October 25, 1977. Gary worked at the Counselor Company in Rockford as a Heat Treater, and was currently employed at Sauer DanFoss in Freeport. Gary was an all around great guy. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed fishing, and helping other people with anything that they needed. He is survived by his wife, Doris; children; Mindy (Rick) Brooks of Leaf River, Amy Mernack, Jodi Honda, Ricky Roccaforte; father, Lester (Evelyn) Mernack of Rockford; siblings, Alan (Helen) Mernack; Cheryl (Mike) Crimmins, Mike Mernack all of Rockford; 9 grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Marion (Kenny) Meiers of Dane, WI, Kathy (Paul) Linns of Spring Green, WI, Pat (Ronald) Alt of Lone Rock, WI, Cheryl (Ronald) Statz of Dane, WI; brother-in-law, Charles (Rachel) Funk of Lone Rock, WI, numerous nieces and nephews; and his Golden Retriever, Copper and cat, Dusty. Preceded in death by mother, Mary Lou (Mernack) Dale; infant brother, Terry Mernack; stepfather, Duane Dale; in-laws, Charles (Lena) Funk. Cremation rites to be accorded.
