Elsie C. Burpo, 91, of Rockford went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 30, 2024. Born August 17, 1932 in Joliet; daughter of Herman and Esther (Markstrom) Sundberg. Graduate of East High School class of 1950. United in marriage to Robert Spencer in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1970. Married Harry Burpo in 1972. Elsie was a homemaker in her younger years, she enjoyed visits from her grandkids, and helping care for them. She worked at Greenlee Textron, in her retirement years she worked at the Sam's Club food court. Elsie was an active member of Calvary Memorial Church. She was a talented square dancer and also enjoyed camping. Survived by her daughter, Lori (James) Godfrey, step-daughter, Sandy Tripp; daughter-in-law, Viola Burpo; grandchildren, Christa Magnuson, Kara (Chris) Menken, Heather (Mike) Descourouez, Julie (Scott) Straley, TJ (Beth) Burpo great-grandchildren; Lynnea (Caleb) Blatchford, Koby Nottingham, Corey, Cameron and Katelyn Menken, Zachary and Zander Descourouez, Ashley and Nathan Straley; great-great-grandchildren, Eliana and Emery Blatchford; sister-in-law, Karen Sundberg; special nephew, Brian Sundberg; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Spencer, Harry Burpo; son, Bradley Spencer; siblings, Howard and Bonnie Sundberg, Leroy and Louise Sundberg, Joan Sundberg, Robert Sundberg; step-daughter, Margaret Holmes, step-son, Gary Burpo, niece, Jody Sundberg; long term boyfriend, Herchel Morlan; grandson-in-law, John Magnuson Jr.. Elsie's family is grateful to the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice for their loving care. Memorial visitation on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10 am to 11 am at Calvary Chapel, 7281 Olde Creek Road, Rockford; followed by a memorial service at 11 am. Pastor Charlie Heffelfinger will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services assisted the family.
