Edward Calvin Day, 90, of Rockford passed into eternity December 5, 2017 at Independence Village. Born May 4, 1927 in Belvidere, middle son of Floyd and Mabel (Dorn) Day. Graduate of Belvidere High School and also attended Lincoln Institute while working at Barber Colman for 17 years. Later Ed worked at Ingersoll for one year and Rockwell for 13 years. In 1982 he accepted a position at Hydrotex, retiring in March of 2017. United in marriage to Margie DiGiovanni on January 21, 1950 in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Edward was an avid bowler from age 16 to March of 2017, he was always in leagues and competed in many tournaments. He loved to play blackjack and take trips to casinos. Survived by his daughters, Diane (Jeff) Haugen of Forreston, Debbie Brasch of Rockford; grandchildren, Ira (Amber) Haugen, Gabrielle Haugen, Seth Brasch, Hillary (Justin) Woodard, Hannah (fiancé Shawn James) Brasch; great-grandchildren, Jonas Haugen, Aidan Krienke, Kiley Krienke; brothers, Robert Day of Delaware, Don Day of Belvidere; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, wife granddaughter, Sara Haugen, sister-in-laws, Barb Day and Betty Day; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Frank Barnick; and great-grandson Evan Krienke. The family wishes to express thanks and gratefulness for the loving support Independence Village and Agrace Hospice provided in our time of need. Eddie's life will be celebrated at an open house at Independence Village, 3rd floor, 3655 N. Alpine Rd. Rockford on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Agrace Hospice, 7290 Argus Drive, Rockford, IL 61107.
