Obituary

Daniel Mulcahey, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away July 26th at the age of 70.

Dan was born on June 12th, 1956 in Rockford, IL to William and MaryAnn Mulcahey. From an early age, Dan was a hard worker who spent his time mowing lawns, delivering papers, and fiddling with cars. It wasn't always easy growing up the only brother of three sisters; he was forbidden from ever laying a hand on them, but he would occasionally take the fuses out of the box so they couldn't watch TV. He graduated from Harlem High School in 1974 and went on to become an electrician, working with various companies in both Rockford and California. His work ethic continued into adulthood, and when he wasn't working, he was known as somebody who could fix anything and was always willing to help family and friends.

Dan was quick with a joke and always told the best stories. To know him was to laugh with him, because he was so incredibly funny and engaging. He enjoyed keeping busy, staying active, and socializing with friends and family. He liked to travel and had just completed a memorable cruise and trip to Italy shortly before his passing. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He loved his two dogs and was known to create little songs about them that he would then sing to them. While the last decade of his life was marked by many tragedies, including a significant bike accident, cancer, and the death of his beloved husband and other family members, Dan was well on his way to regaining health and happiness in the last few months with the help of some special friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Mulcahey, and son, Brad Mulcahey (Sarah); grandchildren Lauren, Colin, and Tripp; sisters MaryEllen Albano (Rich Paeglow), Cathy Choppa (Mark, deceased), and Kelly Chesak (Dave); many nieces and nephews; and his two dogs, Wrigley and Daisy. He was predeceased by his husband, Darrin Tharp, his parents, and his brother-in-law Mark Choppa.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18th from 2-4 pm at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 4301 N Main St, Rockford, IL 61103, followed by a celebration of life at 4 pm. Celebrant Jennifer Thompson will officiate.
