Colonel William Preston Norris (R.), 80, of Rockford was promoted to glory on December 18, 2014. Born February, 17, 1934 is Owosso, MI; son of Ralph and Margaret (Preston) Norris. United in Marriage to Eleanor Dixon on November 7, 1957 in Peoria. William was appointed and served in numerous positions in the Salvation Army in Illinois, Michigan, and Nebraska, where he was involved in numerous philanthropic endeavors. In addition to his service in the United States, he also spent 15 years serving in Africa. Retiring with the rank of Colonel, he relocated to Rockford with his wife. Member of The Salvation Army Temple Corps. Survived by his wife, Eleanor; children, Ellen (Todd) Bear of Belvidere, Steven (Kristi) Norris of Kansas; grandchildren, Dustan Hall, Kylee Bear, Dylan Bear, Preston Norris, Peyton Norris; great-grandchild, Cohen Hall; brother-in-law, Paul Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister Rebecca Smith. Memorial Service on January 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at The Salvation Army Temple Corps. 500 S.
