Cindy L. Balzer, 55, of Rockton died on March 7, 2015 in her home. Born on August 16, 1959 in Sikeston, MO, daughter of Charles and Claudia (Bradley) Merick. Graduated from Harlem High School in 1977. Formerly employed at Aetna Insurance as a Claims Processor and Kohl's. Cindy had an unbelievably positive disposition. She constantly made an effort to bring happiness and to share her inner joy with everyone she came in contact with. Her warm and welcoming manner set both strangers and friends at ease. Cindy had a competitive side, not just participating, but with a will to win; in bags tournaments with her partner, Bill. She was constantly challenging herself by seeking out new activities that were outside of her comfort zone; zip lining, ATV adventures and whitewater rafting were some of the experiences that she savored. She was devoted to her family, and had an amazing circle of friends. Survived by her partner, Bill Evink of Rockton; daughter, Jennifer (Troy) Mangrum of Cedar Springs, MI; grandson, Jason Mangrum; parents, Charles and Claudia Merick of Mead, CO; siblings, Chuck (Candy) Merick of Miami, OK, Pattie (Bill) Olson of Mead, CO; nephews, Charlie and Matt Olson, C.J. and Steven Merick; niece, Kaitlyn Balzer; and special friends Kathy Panozzo of Jacksonville, FL, and Beth Larsen of Loves Park. Celebration of Cindy's life is Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 5 p.m. at Heartland Community Church, 1280 South Alpine Rd. Rockford, with memorial visitation at 4 p.m. until the time of service.
