Obituary

Charles Richard Moffitt, 81, of Rockford, IL was Promoted to Glory at Rockford Memorial Hospital on December 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born on April 28, 1934 in Beloit, WI to Ira and Hazel (McMillan) Moffitt. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in the class of 1952. Immediately following High School, Charles entered The Salvation Army College for Officer's Training in Chicago, IL and was ordained and commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant. He was united in marriage to Florence Kuhlke on May 5, 1956 in Sheboygan, WI. They had four children. Charles was an active Salvation Army Officer for 45 years where he loved and cared for the people God entrusted to him. Charles was an excellent cook, and he was skilled at interior and exterior decorating. He also enjoyed ceramics and floral design. He is survived by his loving wife, Florence of Rockford; children James Ira (Leslie) Moffitt (Carmel, IN), Majors Lisa (Butch) Frost (Maplewood, MN); grandchildren Jason (Jesika) Moffitt (Rockford, IL), Jasmine Moffitt (Carmel, IN), Elizabeth (Christopher) Sprecker (Witchita, KS), Seth Moffitt (Carmel, IN), Aaron Moffitt (Addison, IL) and Benjamin (Chrisha Riley-Anderson) Frost (Mapelwood, MN); great-grandchildren Hannah and Hunter Sprecker, Kaiden Frost and Atticus Moffitt. Charles and Florence were foster parents to numerous children throughout their 59 years of marriage, sharing their love of the Lord and offering a safe and loving home to children in need. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Louise (Duane) Blakeman (Beloit, WI) and Majors David (Nanci) Moffitt (Branson, MO). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His surviving extended family includes: Major Mary Hammerly (Chicago, IL), Senida (Richard) Maier (South Elgin, IL), and Pat Simmons (Farmington, MO). Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Hazel (McMillan)Moffitt, sister Lucille Spear, and children, Gail Elizabeth Moffitt and Timothy Ivan Moffitt. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Temple Corps, 500 S. Rockford Ave. Rockford, IL. Visitation at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment in Glen Oak Cemetery in Hillside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Salvation Army Temple Corps. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
