Obituary

Betty Berkowski, 57, of Rockford, passed away on September 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born August 27, 1967, in Sycamore, Daughter of Andrew Jackson and Myrtle (Simmons) Dunn.
Betty graduated from Jefferson High School, class of 1985, and went on to attend Rock Valley College. She worked at Woodward as a deburring operator and later at Lowe's Distribution Center, where her kindness and humor left a lasting mark on her coworkers. Betty lived her life with a generous heart and a gift for making others feel cared for. Known affectionately as the "candy lady," she always had treats to share and a smile to brighten someone's day. She loved to feed everyone around her, making sure no one left her table hungry, often insisting on second helpings. A fresh pot of coffee was always nearby-something she enjoyed most when shared with family and friends. Creative and resourceful, Betty had a knack for DIY projects, decorating, and fixing just about anything. She also found peace in bird watching and joy in the simple pleasures of everyday life. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Betty was a devoted mother who sheltered and protected her daughters, offering comfort and reminding them that no matter how tough life became, things would work out in the end. Recently, she embraced the role of grandmother, proudly becoming "Grandma B." Her love and excitement for her grandchildren were boundless. Betty's loyal dog, Max, was also her constant companion and another source of happiness in her life. Survived by her daughters; Tonya (Ben) Conklin, Tiffany Johnson; grandchildren, Paisley Conklin, Damian Reyes Medina, Piper Conklin; siblings, Martha (Danny) Turman, Ted (Sharon) Dunn, Samantha "Mandy" (James) Cavanaugh; several nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved dog, Max. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Oberg,; former spouse, JR Berkowski; and dog, Lexor. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in her memory to the family. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family. Share a memory or condolence at www.graceFH.com
