Obituary

Alberta H. Freed, 93, of Wichita, KS died on December 14, 2020, in Rockton, IL. She was born in Dodge City, KS and graduated from Dodge City High School and Dodge City Community College. One of her claims to fame was that she had perfect attendance all through elementary and high school. Alberta married Ralph B. Freed in September of 1948 and together they raised 5 children. She was a long-time resident of Lawrence, KS, and active in her church and community. She enjoyed a 30- year banking career, beginning at First National Bank in Lawrence, KS, spanning several position changes and buy-outs, she finished as an officer at US Bank. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence, KS, and later Immanuel Lutheran Church, Junction City, KS and Ascension Lutheran Church in Wichita, KS. After retirement, she moved near her daughter in Chapman, KS where she helped to raise and "spoil" grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids! Alberta, affectionately known as "Grandma Bert" was a woman of few vices, though she did enjoy shopping and shoes and was definitely one of the most stylish and best-dressed grandmas around. She was a model of love and faith and her generosity touched the lives of many. Her legacy lives on in her children; Nancy (Jim), Debra (Jim), Judy, Mike (Linda), and Steve; 11 grandchildren; Tiffany, Kelsie, Jennifer, Sara, Brent, Troy, Brady, Erin, Eddie, Elizabeth and Rebekah; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Those who went on before her include her parents; husband; an infant daughter, Susan; a sister, Jean; and a brother-in-law, Fritz. She will be deeply missed but even more fondly and joyfully remembered!
