Obituary

Adalberto "Albert" Mendez, 59, of Rockford died January 23, 2023 from complications caused by Diabetes Type II. Born September 18, 1963 in Manhattan, NY; son of Manuel and Rafaela (Garcia) Mendez. Albert married his best friend and the love of his life, Cristina Castillo on December 16, 1996 in Chicago. He was self employed and worked as a handyman and general laborer. Albert was warm, giving and cared greatly about others. He and his wife Cristina provided a warm, welcoming home throughout the course of his life to people who needed hugs, love and a soft place to land and regroup. Albert didn't wait for others to step up and be helpful; if he saw someone in need, he was the first person to jump in and help. He had a hysterical sense of humor, loved to dance to all types of music and was truly the life of the party. Albert loved planning cookouts, holiday gatherings and took special care to make sure people were invited and felt included. He loved his wife dearly, was incredibly proud of his two children, and believed that family and friends were the most important part of life. In his free time, he enjoyed antiquing, junking, garage sales and searching for treasures to fix, collect and resell. He had an excellent eye for collectible and valuable items. Survived by wife; Cristiana; children, Tatiana (Balam Bue) Mendez, Albert Enoc Mendez; siblings; Manuel (Maria Conde) Mendez, Damaris Kush, Jose "Chino" (Lorena Mieves) Mendez; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; a large extended family; friends Tony "Mr. Fred" (Emma) Rubio, and Francisco (Guadalupe) Sanchez. Preceded in death by parents; father and mother-in-law, Jose and Candelaria (Flemate) Castillo; brother, Enoc Mendez; sister, Carmen Matilde Mendez; and brother-in-law, Frank J. Kush;. Visitation Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3-6 p.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 4301 N. Main St. Rockford, followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. Pastor Tony Nunez will officiate.
