Gladys Bernice Curtis

Gladys Bernice Curtis was born on May 28, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the only child of Johnnie Essex Mobley and the firstborn of five to Laura Marie Hurndon. Gladys grew up on the Southside of Chicago where she attended Wendell Phillips High School. She later attended Loop College and Loyola University where she acquired an Associate Certification in Early Childhood Development. She was employed as a Teacher's Aide in Chicago. Later moving to Rockford and receiving her CNA Certification from Rock Valley College. Gladys worked at various nursing homes and private duty positions throughout Rockford. She began her devoted service to God at Soul-Reviving Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; later becoming a member of Kingdom Authority in Rockford. She loved reading the Word and listening to church music. She was the mother of four children, whom she loved dearly and equally. She also treasured her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Survived by her children Daniel M. Curtis, Randall D. (Joycelyn M.) Curtis, Princess Evelyn M. Curtis, and Gladys B. Curtis; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Bena M. Jackson and Georgia A. Wilderness; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gladys was preceded in death by both her parents, Johnnie and Laura; siblings, Malcom P. Hampton and Irene S. Jefferson. Homegoing Service March 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Kingdom Authority, 518 North Court Steet; Rockford, IL 61103. Pastor Melvin Brown will officiate.
