Heart of Gold Doris E. Williams, 92, went to the waiting arms of her Heavenly Father on Oct. 22, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer and dementia in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rockford February 24, 1919 to Emil and Cecelia (Anderson) Palmer, and spent her entire life in Rockford. Married to Donald E. Williams in Rockford on June 26, 1937. He passed away January 21,1977. To them were born 3 daughters, Katherine, Nancy, and Patricia. Doris enjoyed reading books throughout her life. She loved her flower gardens and traveling or to just go for a ride on a nice day and stop for lunch or dinner. She had a heart of gold and helped out those which she felt needed it, whether they really needed it or not, taking from her own self needs to help them. She was a member of Alpine Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a solicitor for 25 years for the Heart Fund. Doris was employed by the Rockford Public Schools cafeteria. She also worked in the cafeteria of Montgomery Ward and the Sweden House Lodge breakfast room. Doris is survived by daughters, Kathy (Don) Kruger, Nancy (Richard) Ewert both of Rockford; grandchildren, Jim Hedlund, Jeff (Erin Simpson) Hedlund, Ken (Sandra) Kruger, Rick Ewert, Mary Holloway, Don (Kim) Cagle, Kathleen Cagle; Great-Grandchildren, Kathy, Tray, Danny, Ashlee, Colton, Kayla; Great-Great Granddaughter, Addisyn Pier; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, husband, and daughter Patricia (Williams) Cagle. Visitation on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral & Cremation Services, 1340 South Alpine Rd. Rockford. Funeral Service Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave. Rockford with an additional visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until service time. Rev. Dr. Richard J. Meier will officiate. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens next to her beloved husband. Memorials may be donated to the family to decide the future use at a later date.
