Charles Z. Ashley, 58, departed this earthly life on August 19, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 25, 1957 in Rockford, son of Zenlous and Lorena (Christopher) Ashley. Graduate of Auburn High School. United in Marriage to Dorothy Richardson on February 21, 1979 in Rockford. Formerly employed at Ingersoll Milling Machine and Exact Machine. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Chicago Bears. Survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Michael Ashley, Melissa (RC) Pettigrew, Michelle Ashley; grandchildren, Abriana, Elijah and Kaelynn Pettigrew, and Michael Kurtenbach all of Rockford; siblings, Calvin (Pearl) Ashley, Albert (Cecilia) Billings of CA; sister-in-laws, Diane Ashley of Sycamore and JoAnn Ashley of Rockford; a host of family members; special friends, Robert Owens, Lonnie Washington, Doug McCurry and Justin Forbes. Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Curtis and David Ashley. Private services will be held. Grace Funeral & Cremation Services is assisting the family.
